Libraire. Fils d'un musicien du Roi. Natif de Saint-Germain-en-Laye et non de Guise (cf. enquête de nov. 1701). Reçu libraire en août 1698, il ne s'établit que fin 1701, en association avec Gabriel II Martin. Se réfugie à La Haye en 1709 pour fait de religion. Abandonne la profession de libraire vers 1713
Correcteur chez Fritsch et Böhm à Rotterdam de 1713 à 1723. Rédacteur au "Journal littéraire" de 1713 à 1737 ; rédacteur de catalogues de librairie ; éditeur critique ; auteur du "Dictionnaire historique ou Mémoires critiques et littéraires", édité par J. N. S. Allamand, La Haye, 1758-1759. Attaché à la fin de sa vie au libraire de La Haye Daniel Monnier

    First edition which would never be reprinted. It is illustrated with one plate, a genealogical table of the Estienne family, and 7 in-text figures (medals...). Title page in red and black. Printed in two columns, the half-title and titles on heavy paper. 6 pages of catalogue at the end of volume I.
    Contemporary full marbled and glazed brown calf binding. Decorated spine with raised bands. Red morocco title label. Lower joint narrowly split at head and foot, with small loss to foot of spine, but handsome condition for this first volume despite rubbing and some light surface wear. A dark stain at foot. Fresh paper overall, slightly browned at end of work.
