    New edition of the French translation illustrated with 30 original etchings by Maurice de Becque, one of 250 numbered copies on handmade Rives laid paper.
    Half tawny morocco binding with bands, spine with five raised bands alternately set with red and brown mosaic morocco fillets, wood-grain paper boards framed with red and green mosaic morocco fillets, brown paper endpapers and pastedowns, original wrappers and spine preserved, top edge gilt, contemporary Art Deco binding.
    Handsome copy skillfully bound.

    Second edition of the French translation established by J. Dusaulx, expanded with notes and preceded by historical notices on the life of Juvenal and on that of Dusaulx.
    Half dark green straight-grained morocco with corners, spine with four raised bands set with double gilt fillets decorated with triple gilt compartments, marbled paper boards, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, top edges gilt, elegant near-contemporary unsigned bindings but attributable to Niédrée.
    Our copy is exceptionally expanded with over 90 engravings including 3 portraits of Juvenal as well as vignettes and portraits.
    Provenance: from the library of Léon Rattier with his bookplates pasted on the blank...

    First Amsterdam impression of the Satires annotated by Thomas Farnabe, first published in London in 1612. It is decorated with a handsome engraved title-frontispiece, unsigned.
    Nineteenth-century binding in full straight-grained green morocco, triple gilt fillet, small cornerpieces connected by a fillet, spine decorated with gilt fillets and fleurons with red mosaics, gilt board-edges. Spine very lightly faded, a few very minor rubbing marks and a small marginal tear without loss on page 77, otherwise a fine uncut copy.
    Bookplate (19th century) pasted on front pastedown.
