The full importance of this book of Spanish medicine has only recently come to be appreciated once more. It is today considered a precursor of psychiatry and psychology. According to Brunet (III, 357): "A well-structured work full of erudition, which nonetheless contains a number of bold and paradoxical ideas." Huarte was in effect the first thinker to bring together psychology and physiology.
