    First French edition and the first translation into the vernacular, following the original Latin text published in the Elementa physiologica in eight volumes between 1757 and 1766. Copy with unidentified arms, bearing angular ermine spots on the covers. The Rohan or Rohan Chabot families affixed only the emblems or charges of their heraldry to their books, but we have been unable to identify a family behind the use of ermine spots, as these occur in too many coats of arms.

    New edition, and first illustrated edition, with a frontispiece by Dunker engraved by Lacroix, a figure on the title page, 6 very fine head-pieces and several tailpieces, all by Dunker. This edition has been revised and the texts improved in translation by Vincent Bernhard de Tscharner.
    Binding in half dark green shagreen ca 1850. Spine with false raised bands decorated with compartments and fillets in cold and hot stamping. Rubbing to headcaps.
    Though slender, the poetic production of the celebrated Swiss physician and naturalist played a determining role in the formation of German lyricism, not to mention that his poetry collections mark Switzerland's entry into literature.

    Considered one of the principal figures of his time, Haller was at once a naturalist, physician, anatomist and poet. He is justly regarded as the father of physiology. In this classic manual, Haller provides a critical overview of the anatomical and physiological knowledge of his era.
