Contemporary full brown calf bindings. Spine with raised bands. Red morocco title labels, and black sheep volume labels. Worn headcaps. Joints cracked at head for 1cm. Corners very bumped. Preliminary leaves browned. Good copy.
German man of letters and philosopher, director of the philosophy class at the Berlin Academy, among other positions he held, Formey (1711-1797) left numerous philosophical writings, some of which are gathered in this collection. He had a great reputation and his works were always well received, as evidenced by his extensive correspondence with all the learned men of Europe. No

The best edition, which includes following Formey's text, the "Introduction générale à l'étude des Sciences et des Belles-Lettres en faveur des personnes qui ne savent que le français", by de La Martinière with notes by Abbé Trublet. The first edition was published in 1746.

Contemporary full marbled calf binding. Smooth spine elegantly decorated. Red morocco title label. One tear with loss to the lower joint extending into the last compartment. Worming running from p.279 to the end, in the lower margin.
