First edition printed in Angers, rare. On the verso of the title page, arms of Henry Arnauld, bishop of Angers. The first edition is found neither in the Bibliothèque nationale de France nor in the British Library, both of which hold the 1672 Couterot copy.
Contemporary full vellum binding. Smooth spine with title and author in manuscript. One corner turned. Between the title page and endpaper, inner joint opened and spine detached held by several stitches. Trace of pale dampstaining to upper margin, sometimes extending onto text, from title page to p. 264. Similarly, dampstain to lower right corner from p. 427 to end. The paper is relatively clean apart from these pale dampstains. Gathering 43 held by a single stitch. Some gatherings protruding.
