    Seventh edition, expanded with new annotations and an appendix containing descriptive and historical details on all the monuments recently erected in the capital by J.-L. Belin, avocat.

    Bound in contemporary half midnight-blue Russian morocco, flat spines gilt with romantic arabesques, gilt fillet framing the marbled-paper boards, marbled endpapers and pastedowns; one lower corner lightly rubbed, contemporary bindings.

    Scattered foxing.

    Illustrated with 58 plates (including 11 archaeological plates), together with 5 folding colour plans hors texte.

    A handsomely preserved copy in a period romantic binding.

    First edition. 3 parts, originally sold in installments here gathered in one volume. Rare.
    Half red shagreen binding from mid-19th century. Spine with raised bands in compartments decorated with fleurons. Corners slightly bumped.
    Examination and origin (history and genealogy) of the nobility of all the great families of France, the Montesquiou, Lusignan, Noailles, Rohan, and lesser ones as well, the author endeavoring to demonstrate that all nobility is usurped, and that all nobles are in fact impostors, and that they derive their origins either from commoners or from thieves, that there is therefore no legitimacy of power and nobility.

    Second edition, revised and annotated by J. Belin. Illustrated with 30 steel-engraved plates hors-texte depicting principally châteaux and monuments, and with a folding map (often missing).

    Restoration period binding in half glazed hazelnut calf. Spine with flat false raised bands decorated with roulettes on the bands and blind fillets. Black calf title-label and volume label. Generally fresh throughout, with very white paper, some pale scattered foxing and a few plates browned. The spines show some browning, otherwise very fine condition overall, the boards without rubbing and corners sharp.
