Édouard DUJARDIN

Complete set of the first quarter issues (11 April-12-19 July 1886) of the symbolist journal La Vogue, the most important literary review of the late nineteenth century, containing the first appearance in print of Rimbaud’s Illuminations. Issues 1-12, published weekly, were gathered under a quarterly wrapper and offered for sale in September 1886. No deluxe copies were issued for this first quarter of the journal, which had a very limited print run. Copy as published, spine restored, upper corner of the second cover lacking.

Autograph letter signed by Edouard Dujardin, 16 lines written in black ink on a double sheet, addressed to Geneviève Mallarmé.
Fold marks inherent to postal dispatch.
The writer still wonders how they could have missed each other when Geneviève Mallarmé had come to visit him: "Nous sommes désolés... Mais nous étions tous deux madame Dujardin et moi, dans le jardin et pas tellement cachés que notre bonne n'ait pu nous trouver. Pour moi, je regrette d'autant plus de ne pas vous avoir vu, aue je voulais vous remercier de votre lettre si bonne, de ces jours derniers.." (We are sorry... Half-caramel sheep binding, smooth spine decorated with a gilt floral motif and bearing small traces of rubbing without gravity, gilt fillet at foot, navy shagreen title-label, marbled paper boards, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, front cover preserved, modest contemporary binding.
