    Second edition, partly original, notably augmented with several additional pieces, complete with the caricature  woodcut portrait of the widow Oudot as frontispiece, printed in green, as is the title. According to Barbier, the burlesque portrait was engraved by one of the authors, the comte de Caylus himself.

    Contemporary full mottled brown calf, smooth spine richly gilt with fleurons, palms and scrollwork, brown-red morocco lettering-piece, triple gilt fillet bordering the boards with fleurons at corners, gilt...

    A new duodecimo edition of the most celebrated work by the writer and historian Charles Pinot Duclos, published in the same year as the first edition. According to the Dictionnaire des ouvrages anonymes et pseudonymes of 1822, "the edition without place of publication, 1751, 12mo, in large type"—the present edition—"should be preferred to that bearing Prault's name, 1751, which contains a dedicatory epistle to the King." (our own translation)

    New edition illustrated with an engraved portrait of the author as frontispiece to the first volume.
    Half caramel calf bindings, smooth spines decorated with arabesques, gilt and blind fillets and friezes, gilt friezes at head and foot, some joints slightly cracked at head or foot, some scuffing to certain boards, gilt fillets on marbled paper boards, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, yellow edges, elegant Romantic bindings.
    Occasional light foxing.
    Handsome copy beautifully bound in Romantic style.

    Half mint green morocco binding with corners, spine with five raised bands set with gilt dots decorated with double gilt compartments and adorned with gilt floral motifs, double gilt fillets framing the marbled paper boards, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, top edge gilt, bookplate pasted to verso of front board.
    Original bio-bibliographical note by Octave Uzanne.
