The League of Cambrai was formed on the initiative of Julius II and brought together all the princes of Europe with the aim of dismembering the Venetian empire. Julius II had secret intentions to turn the league against France after gaining the advantage over Venice. The conflict ended with the battle of Agnadel where Julius II won victory against the Venetians; despite numerous concessions from Venice, the Republic continued to prosper and shine while the King of France was led to war against his former allies.
