Edition adorned with numerous illustrations (nearly a hundred) in black in-text and full-page by the brothers Louis and Frederick Rhead.

Upper board decorated with a polychrome cathedral-style pediment with oriental figures in niches and navigation instruments in the center. Gilt edges. Both volumes slightly warped, leaning to the right. Some scattered foxing.

All editions of Robinson Crusoe have become rather rare today, and they are encountered less and less often, except for that of 1784 from the same publisher. The first edition remains very rare, especially in a good copy. In the preface, Robinson Crusoe is presented as a real person and not as a fictional being.
