The composer seeks: "... pour des sonneries de trompettes ou de cors... des thèmes, bien caractéristiques, assez courts, pris dans les oeuvres du maître..." ["... for trumpet or horn fanfares... themes, quite characteristic, fairly short, taken from the master's works..."], for this he asks for help from a composer friend: "... pourrais-tu faire un voyage dans ta mémoire et m'envoyer quelques tuyaux ?" ["... could you take a journey through your memory and send me some tips?"]
