First edition illustrated with 17 portraits in medallions by Bernard Picart after various painters including Van Dyck, including the frontispiece. 4 title pages in red and black. The first volume was translated by La Pilonnière, the translator of the second is unknown; this first volume had appeared in 1725 under the title: Histoire des dernières révolutions d'Angleterre.
Foreign (English?) contemporary binding in full marbled tawny sheep. Spine with raised bands very richly decorated. Red morocco title-label, decorated tan morocco volume label. A lack in the first compartment of volume I. Tail headcap of volume II worn with a lack in the compartment. Some wormholes. Scratches on some boards. Some corners slightly bumped. Despite the mentioned defects, a very handsome copy, fresh internally.
The volumes contain the history of the reign of Charles II and what preceded it, the history of James II, the history of William III and Mary II, the history of the reign of Anne I, followed by Réflexions sur l'histoire qui précède and La vie de Gilbert Burnet.
