Work illustrated with a frontispiece, 94 hors-texte plates and numerous black vignettes in the text by Bertall.
Light dampstains at foot, spine lightly sunned with lacks at head and foot, small tears with occasional minor lacks to board margins, tear at foot of spine which also has two lacks at head.
Handsome interior condition.

First edition, containing 23 tales by Andersen translated by David Soldi, together with a biographical essay by Xavier Marmier.

 

Illustrated with 40 vignettes by Bertall, engraved by Jacques G. J. Midderich and Alphonse Minne.

 

Full blue cloth binding, flat spine, gilt-stamped title, faint rubbing to the joints, light scattered marks to the boards, contemporary binding.

Contemporary Romantic binding of half red shagreen over red paper boards, spines with gilt Romantic arabesques, gilt name of a previous owner to foot, marbled paper endpapers and pastedowns.
Contributions from George Sand, Charles Nodier, Honoré de Balzac, Gérard de Nerval, Théophile Gautier, Alfred de Musset, Léon Gozlan and others.
This copy without any trace of foxing. A few pale and tiny dampstains to margins of some leaves.
