French naturalist, traveller and collector, Guy-René Babault became an associate/corresponding member of the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle in 1913. Between 1912 and 1915 he led major expeditions to British East Africa (present-day Kenya and Uganda), documented in the multi-volume Résultats scientifiques and in his illustrated narrative published by Plon-Nourrit. He subsequently worked in central India and the western Himalayas (1922), supplying large series of specimens to French collections. In 1926 an exhibition of taxidermied animals from his expeditions opened at the Palais Jacques-Cœur in Bourges; in 1927 significant holdings were transferred to the new Bourges Natural History Museum. Authority records note him as a laureate of the Société de géographie and member of the Royal Geographical Society. He later lived in central Africa and died in Mombasa (Kenya) on 3 February 1963.
