    Very rare autograph inscription signed by François Augiéras to Yves Le Marchand: "... protecteur de la jeune littérature, hommage respectueux de l'auteur. F. Augiéras." ["... protector of young literature, respectful homage from the author. F. Augiéras."]
    One manuscript correction by the author who crossed out a line on page 70.

    The first edition, of which there were no deluxe copies.


    Bradel binding in full wood-effect paper, smooth spine, author's name and title lettered in orange and vertically, in the center of the front board, inlaid, a photographic portrait, covers and spine preserved, slipcase bordered with the same wood-effect paper, brown paper boards, original contemporary binding signed Leroux.


    Handsome copy pleasantly executed by one of the last great masters of French twentieth-century bookbinding.

    The true first edition, hors commerce, of the complete version of 138-[6] pages, which preceded the 1954 edition by Editions de Minuit.
    Previously, only parts had been published (between 1949 and 1951), and only in a few copies.
    Additionally, a new “Belgian” edition, similar to this first edition, came out in 1958 comprising no more than 80 pages and dated “de 1958” on the cover.
    The author had André Gide's (the dedicatee of the first part of the work in 1949) review especially printed: "L'intense et bizarre joie que j'éprouve à la lecture (et relecture) de ces pages remarquables entre toutes.
