Second edition statement; reprint of the original published in 1876. It is illustrated with 7 etchings (on china paper laid down on strong wove paper) by Léopold Flammeng and 124 wood engravings in the text. Printed on fine white wove paper. Contemporary full brown morocco binding signed H. Brenkens. Raised bands spine richly decorated, roulette at foot. Gilt title and date. Boards decorated à la Du Seuil, with fleurons in the corners. Rich inner dentelle. Overall very fresh, with clean white paper, with rare small foxing spots concentrated here and there, often where tissue guards have been removed. Top edge gilt. The original wrappers have been preserved. Slipcase protecting the binding in fair condition with numerous tears. Despite a spine slightly and uniformly faded, a very handsome copy of this deluxe artistic publication. Work by art historian Henry Havard in a comparative study of Amsterdam and Venice.
