First edition of this double-sided cardboard panel designed "to the glory of the immortal American Hero, as to the immense glory of the Aviation of all Peoples". Portrait of the poet Auguste Boncors, in profile wearing an emperor's crown and text entitled "La résurrection triomphale de Clem-Sohn". On the verso, a poem "Requiem de Clem-Sohn", printed in red and gold, and dedicated to Franklin Roosevelt. A native of Michigan, Clem Sohn made his very first parachute jump at the age of 18. A few years later, he manufactured his first set of wings on his mother's sewing machine and made his first jump thus equipped in March 1935 at Daytona Beach before 100,000 people. Enjoying immense popularity from then on, he performed at numerous air shows, notably in Europe. It was during the Vincennes Air Festival that he died on April 25, 1937. Before takeoff, he had said to a journalist: "I feel as safe as in your grandmother's kitchen.".
