The Badminton Library is an encyclopedia project of sports and entertainments, conceived and realized by Henry Somerset, 8th Duke of Beaufort; he thus developed a specific collection dedicated to sports (fishing, equitation, hunting, skating, football) calling upon the specialists of the genre at the time, noting that there was no book for those who wanted to engage in such practices. The two books which were published a few months apart detail absolutely everything concerning salmon and trout fishing, and pike fishing and other fish. England distinguished Game fish (salmon, trout) practiced by the nobility and Coarse fish, fishing whose fish was considered less good.
