Contemporary chocolate half chagrin, spine with five raised bands showing some rubbing, mainly to the spine ends; gilt date at foot. Marbled paper boards, bumped corners, marbled endpapers and pastedowns. Restored and lined original wrappers preserved. Binding signed in blind by Henry Joseph.

Author's inscription on the front wrapper.

Illustrated with a frontispiece depicting the church of Clamart; this copy lacks the coloured plan.
