First edition. In original wrappers, covered with much later strong blue paper. Abraham Vater (1684-1751), German anatomist and botanist, doctor of philosophy and medicine. He met Frederik Ruysch very early. Once appointed professor of anatomy and botany, he founded an anatomical museum which contributed greatly to his fame. Most of his writings concern anatomy, such as this exchange on the orbicular muscle with Ruysch, one of the most famous anatomists of Holland (also a botanist), about whom Fontenelle wrote a eulogy. He possessed a cabinet of curiosities that all of Europe came to visit.
