Precious copy of this handsome edition in contemporary morocco with doublures.
19th-century engraved bookplate of Henry J. B. Clements, with the motto Patriis virtutibus.
Felix Minutius (second half of the 2nd century A.D.) is one of the first, if not the first Latin Christian apologists. He is exclusively known as the author of the present text: Octavius, which is an apology for Christianity in the form of a dialogue between a pagan and a Christian (reminiscent of Cicero's Tusculanae), in a vigorous and elegant style. The edition adds several texts to the Octavius, especially Firmicus's De errore profanarum religionum.
This edition contains the Prolegomena of François Balduin, the notes of Jean de Wower, and the commentary of Geverhart Elmenhorst, the corrections and notes of Desiderius Heraldus, and the observations of Nicolas Rigault on the history of the early Christians under the Roman empire, and on the historians relating what concerns the early Christians.
