New edition. One title vignette. Title page in red and black.
Later full green morocco binding attributable to Derôme. Smooth spine uniformly sunned (turned blonde) decorated with 5 small lozenges, fillets. Triple fillet frame on boards. Interior border. Edges gilt. Handsome copy.
Felix Minutius (second half of the 2nd century A.D.) is one of the first, if not the first Latin Christian apologists. He is exclusively known for being the author of the present text: Octavius, which is an apology of Christianity in the form of a dialogue between a pagan and a Christian (reminiscent of Cicero's Tusculanae), in a vigorous and elegant style. The edition adds several texts to the Octavius, especially Firmicus's De errore profanarum religionum. Edition richly and diversely annotated by Geverhart Elmenhorst, Desiderius Heraldus, Nicolas Rigault's Observations on the history of the early Christians under the Roman Empire, and on the historians relating what concerns the early Christians.
