New edition, after the first published in 1739. Published anonymously, the author's name is found in Barbier, Dictionnaire des ouvrages anonymes. Contemporary full marbled and glazed calf binding. Spine with raised bands, decorated. Red morocco title and volume labels. Headcap of volume I partly worn, same for the headcap of volume II. 5 corners bumped. Interesting compilation of ancient authors regarding Roman customs in fields as varied as music, education, construction, theater, military art.... One can easily gather a wealth of diverse information, and the whole reads pleasantly. The author studies customs following a chronological axis, and traces Rome's power back to a small barbarous and ambitious tribe.
