Jovian is the successor to Roman Emperor Julian, whose biography the author had given shortly before; it was a great success in Europe and made La Bleterie one of the prominent figures of History in the 18th century. After the brief biography of the emperor, one will find translations of Julian's writings, The Caesars, a satire dedicated to Sallust; the Misopogon (the enemy of the beard), where Julian draws a portrait of himself, as he indeed wore a very long beard which attracted mockery, and several letters. Bookplate Marduel.
