The poet sent a poem to his friend: "Voici le sonnet. Je sais que vous aimerez le huitième vers, et goûterez les douloureuses exaltations des deux tercets." ("Here is the sonnet. I know you will love the eighth verse, and will savor the painful exaltations of the two tercets.") to whom he aspires to be eternally pleasing: "Ce qui me plaît encore mieux, c'est de vous plaire. Nos rencontres n'ont été qu'heureuses. L'avez-vous remarqué ? - C'est rare ! Et m'est avis qu'elles vont continuer. Vive saint Orphée ! " ("What pleases me even more is to please you. Our meetings have been nothing but happy. Have you noticed? - It's rare! And I believe they will continue. Long live Saint Orpheus!")
