Autograph inscription signed by Francis Carco to journalist and later director of the collaborationist newspaper "Je suis partout" Henri Poulain: "... ces heures sombres, en le remerciant d'aimer et de si bien comprendre mes livres..." ["... these dark hours, thanking him for loving and understanding my books so well..."]

Binding in full percaline sand, smooth back, title piece of morocco olive, paper plates decorated with a large color map of Paris, covers and back preserved, gilded head, binding signed by Gauché.
Nice copy pleasantly established.

Second edition, after the posthumous first edition of 1731.
Nineteenth-century full blonde calf binding, spine with five raised bands decorated with gilt fillets, roulettes and fleurons, as well as black fillets, brown morocco title label, gilt date at foot, double gilt fillet framing the boards, gilt roulette on the edges, fine gilt dentelle framing the pastedowns, top edge gilt retaining deckled edges. Binding signed Muller successeur de Thouvenin.
One corner very slightly bumped and joints skillfully restored.
Handsome copy of these Memoirs of which we know, even today, only fragments.

New edition after the first French (translated by Demeunier) in 1775. Illustrated with two frontispieces by Eisen (representing slaves under the English yoke and the English army in India) and a folding map of India.
Contemporary full speckled sheep bindings. Smooth spine decorated. Title label of volume I missing. Rubbing to spines. Joint of volume II opened at foot. Corners slightly bumped. Frontispiece frayed in lower margins. It appears, according to a comment contained in the work, that Bolt had himself written the article on Bengal in the Histoire philosophique et politique des deux Indes. The criticism present in the book indeed follows that of Raynal's book, namely a denunciation of the exploitation of peoples, slavery, trade... Bolt was a Dutch adventurer who worked for the East India Company. He was later deported to England where he wrote his book, which remains important documentation on 18th-century India.
