The painter will not be able to attend the P.G.I. meeting (independent painters and engravers) and will miss his friend Jean-Emile Laboureur: "J'ai quitté Paris pour un moment. J'aurais bien aimé aussi vous revoir." (I have left Paris for a moment. I would have very much liked to see you again as well.)
Moreover, he envisions his future only in painting: "Pour moi personnellement je crois bien que ma carrière de graveur est terminée : tombé dans la litho et la peinture d'histoire comme vous savez je me demande si jamais je pourrai refaire un beau bois au canif car comme graveur je ne sais ou plutôt n'ai su faire que ça et malgré le désir que j'en ai je me demande si jamais j'en aurai le loisir." (For me personally I do believe that my career as an engraver is finished: fallen into litho and history painting as you know I wonder if I will ever be able to make a beautiful penknife woodcut again because as an engraver I don't know or rather have only known how to do that and despite the desire I have for it I wonder if I will ever have the leisure for it.) even though he will keep his place within this association bringing together engravers and painters: "Donc malgré que je n'assiste jamais, ou presque, aux réunions, je crois même que ma cotisation ne soit pas en règle je suis quand même PGI de tout coeur et quand je rentrerai à Paris j'aurai bien du plaisir à vous revoir tous." (So although I never, or almost never, attend the meetings, I even believe that my dues are not up to date I am nevertheless PGI with all my heart and when I return to Paris I will have great pleasure in seeing you all again.)
