First edition by Cazin. Translation by Philippe Florent de Puisieux, preferable to the free adaptation by Madame Riccoboni.
Contemporary full red morocco binding. Smooth spine decorated with 3 compartmented fleurons, roulette at head and tail. Title and volume labels in garnet morocco. Triple fillet frame on boards. Gilt edges. Signs of rubbing, notably on three upper boards in small areas. Slight lack of leather on lower board of volume II. 2 lower corners slightly bumped.
Very handsome copy, rare in this condition, bound in 5 volumes.
Third of Fielding's great novels which revolutionized English literature and left its mark until the end of the 19th century, Amelia appeared in 1751 in London. Fielding was only 45 years old but had only 3 years left to live. Among his three great novels, The Adventures of Joseph Andrews, Tom Jones and Amelia, Fielding expressed his preference for the latter. Second edition and first published by Cazin, with two volumes added; a first edition in 4 volumes was published in Geneva in 1782. Musical scores at the end of volumes. Only volumes 5 and 6 contain no musical score, the songs being sung to airs already noted in the other volumes, which are identified by the air numbers. 48pp. of musical scores in volume 1; 48pp. in volume 2; 38 in volume 3; 40 in volume 4.

Later brown half-sheep binding (1800). Smooth spine decorated with three fleurons and fillets. Red morocco title-label with roulettes. Red morocco volume label in a roundel. Marbled paper boards. Rubbing to headcaps and joints. Corners slightly bumped.

New revised and expanded edition, with only one copy recorded in OCLC (Bibliothèque universitaire, Toulouse).

Title vignette featuring the printer’s mark with a golden griffin, numerous decorative initials and woodcut headpieces throughout.

Full limp vellum binding, spine titled in manuscript, a few minor scuffs and stains to covers, traces of former ties, upper portion of th spine-end damaged.
