François MAURIAC
"Mais comme je comprends votre désir de ne pas les quitter pour avoir jeté les bases d'une union, d'une fraternité au Christ-Jésus."
Autograph letter dated and signed addressed to Father Casy Rivière supporting him in his commitment
S. n.|Saint-Maixant (Gironde) [Saint-Maixant] 1931|20.50 x 26.50 cm|une page
Autograph letter signed by François Mauriac (19 lines in black ink on letterhead from his Gironde estate of Malagar in Saint-Maixant) addressed to Abbé Casy Rivière.
Fold marks inherent to posting, two tears in the left and right margins of the letter due to folding.
François Mauriac understands and offers his full support to the abbé: "It is evident that you are called to live among the souls of Jesus. You are too sensitive to bear indefinitely the contact of those who hate him. But how I understand your desire not to leave them, having laid the foundations of a union, a brotherhood in Christ Jesus."
He also intends to offer his assistance in all that Casy Rivière will undertake: "If I could help you however little it might be, believe that I would be happy to do so. What a pity that I did not know you wanted to go to Lourdes: I have just returned from there; I was there last Saturday..." and invites him to Bordeaux when his friend can make the journey.
A handsome testimony to the Christian charity that animated the author of Génitrix and Thérèse Desqueyroux.
