["For very dear Nadine in memory of a day brightened by her kindness. Very tenderly David. August 4th 77."]
We include an affectionate autograph letter signed, one page, from David Noakes to his friend Nadine Nimier sent from Bayreuth and dated July 13th in which he attempts to comfort her after the burglary she recently suffered: "... figure-toi que de telles choses arrivent aussi à New-York : il paraît qu'on est entré par effraction à la Maison française le week-end après mon départ - serrures cassées, tout fouillé, mais rien de volé. Très mystérieux, inquiétant. Quel monde que le nôtre." ["... imagine that such things also happen in New York: it seems that someone broke into the Maison française the weekend after I left - locks broken, everything searched through, but nothing stolen. Very mysterious, worrying. What a world we live in."] while also narrating what the Wagner festival in Bayreuth has in store this year: "... je passe quelques jours ici, assiste à des répétitions du Ring avec Boulez et Chéreau..."
Envelope included addressed to: Madame Roger Nimier.
