New edition, with mention of Second augmented edition. The illustration includes 3 thumbnails of repeated titles. The eight flip charts of Paris are missing. Title pages in red and black. The first volume of the Treaty of the Police appeared in 1707, Volume 2 in 1710, Volume 3 in 1719, and a fourth volume (De la voirie), written by the secretary of Delamare, appeared posthumously in 1738.

The police treaty, while secondarily a history of the bylaws in antiquity and the exercise of the police contains the set of ordinances and rules in all areas, ie all that relates public law (boards, trade, shows, prisons ...) for the city of Paris. The first volume also deals with the various bodies of the police and its administration. It is in 1667 that Lamoignon, first President of the Parliament of Paris, suggested the idea to Nicolas Delamare, to write a work describing the methods of the police in a big city; the archives and the rich library of Colbert were opened to him for this purpose. "This work is not," says the author, "a simple collection of ordinances, as I had first proposed; these are essays on all police matters; it is a history of all the laws and regulations since the establishment of the oldest of the republics until now. " From the very first pages of his treatise, Delamare gave a broad definition of the police, as an "art of providing a convenient and quiet life". Delamare's original plan provided for 12 books, it only appeared 6. The first book deals with "The police in general and its magistrates and officers", the second "of religion", the third "morals", the fourth "health", and the fifth "boards".
