FERNEL Campagne d'Afrique en 1830

FERNEL

Campagne d'Afrique en 1830

Théophile Barrois et Benjamin Duprat, Paris 1831, In-8 (13x21cm), 189pp. 32pp., relié.

Mention of second edition, corrected and augmented. The first one has been published without an author's name and has only received a confidential print, which is why it is found only very rarely. The illustration includes a frontispiece portrait of Hussein Pasha, a folded map, and 10 state of the army paintings.
Binding full green sheepskin contemporary. Smooth back decorated with 2 irons and a large romantic central iron mirror, nets and wheels. Title piece in morocco burgundy. Traces of friction in caps and corners. Nice copy.
Commander Fernel (1793-1854) was attached to the staff of the army of Africa, he tells us in this book with a legitimist tendency the story of the capture of Algiers. The last chapter is devoted to the peculiarities of the region, date palm, sugar cane, pomegranates, camels ... This campaign, as we know, will have considerable repercussions on the French presence in North Africa.
