Feminism and bibliophilyFeminism and bibliophily
Where we see that it is not good to be both feminist and bibliophile ...

Evidenced by these two anecdotes that cross through the channels of chance in the shelves of the bookstore date:

Richard de Bury (1282-1345), in his spiritual testament entitled Philobiblon ("love of books," 1343-1345), sets ingenuously that the greatest enemy MAY HAVE to fear the books is "this animal biped called the woman. [...] As soon as she discovers a book in a corner, hidden by the canvas of a dead spider, she snatched it and demonstrates the advantage of barter against a chaperone or some precious silk cloth * ".

And in his book Starets Silouan ** monk of Mount Athos 1866-1938 , Archimandrite Sophrony evokes Mount Athos, "sacred mountain" the twenty monasteries, which is subject since 1046 and still today, to "avaton "decree issued by the Byzantine Emperor Constantine Monomakh which prohibits the presence there of women and female animals - except cats.

** Starets Silouan (1866-1936), better known by the name of Silouan the Athonite, was a Russian monk saint of the Orthodox Church, who lived in the St. Panteleimon monastery of Mount Athos 1892 to his death.
