New edition corrected and augmented after French original published in 1781-1803 in 4 Vol. folio. Richly illustrated edition of 600 prints intaglio inset, mostly full-page, executed under the inspection of the painter Vincent, 82 drawn blood, some folding.
Half gray cloth. Jansenist smooth back with pieces of paper title. Some fragile caps. boards rubbed paper. Copy all margins, modest binding work or waiting time.
A tear without loss and without injury to the engraving on the frontispiece of the book, some boards dissociated, some spots without gravity parties.
The "Lavater" is in the tradition of all great works of physiognomy published previously, it is not only the scientific outcome (getting rid of all his discipline esoteric jumble), but it shines through his exemplary illustration (Lavater friend of Fussli particularly neat drawings).
