Design and original wash Jules Laurens. Date and place written in pencil by the artist at the top right of the work (in November 1848). Work presented in an old frame painted and gilded wood, under liner. A slight black spot in the upper left corner of the frame and a small accident in the lower right corner of the frame, otherwise good condition. Joseph Auguste Jules Laurens is a painter and lithographer, born in Carpentras July 27, 1825, died in Saint-Didier May 5, 1901 Born in a family of five children, Jules joined at the age of twelve, his brother Elder, Jean Joseph Bonaventure Laurens, based in Montpellier. He enrolled at the School of Fine Arts in that city, alongside Alexandre Cabanel and the arts alongside his brother. From 1842 to 1846 he lived in Paris, to complete his training at the School of Fine Arts where he was admitted on 5th 600, and the painter Paul Delaroche. From 1846 to 1849 he roams, as a cartoonist, Turkey and Persia, as part of a scientific expedition led by geographer Hommaire Hell. Despite the failure of the mission (death Hommaire Hell, no remuneration for the work), Jules brings hundreds of sketches, drawings and watercolors that will serve his artistic activity. These binders are now stored at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Avignon and Carpentras (Inguimbertine Library and museums). This trip, he also reported works of art Qajar later data Calvet Museum in Avignon and the museum of Carpentras. After returning in the Comtat, it contributes to the development of the library-museum of Carpentras. Collector, he donated to the institution many notable works of contemporary artists recognized (Victor Hugo, Ingres, Auguste Bonheur, Eugène Ciceri, Gustave Dore etc.).
