In addition to the existing titles, more than 70 newspapers are created during the 70 days of the Commune. But freedom of the press was restricted as early as 18 April, and on 18 May the Committee of Public Safety prohibited newspapers favorable to the Thiers government. The most influential newspapers were 'Le Cri du Peuple' by Jules Vallès, 'Le Mot d'ordre' by Henri Rochefort, 'L'Affranchi' by Paschal Grousset, 'Le Père Duchesne' by Versmersch, 'La Sociale' With Madame André Léo, 'The avenger' of Félix Pyat, 'La Commune'. It was mainly in May that the struggle against the press in Versaillais was gaining momentum. Thus, between May 5 and 18, 21 newspapers were abolished. It is quite clear that the Parisian pro-Communard press can not be broadcast in the provinces because of the vigilance of the Thiers government.
