Alexis PIRON

Oeuvres complettes, publiées par M. Rigoley de Juvigny

De l'Imprimerie de Lambert, à Paris 1776, In-8 (13x19,6cm), (4) xv ; 158pp. ; 379pp. (4) et (4) 573pp. (1) et (4) 544pp. et (4) 599pp. et (4) 576pp. et (4) 576pp. et (4) 551pp., 7 tomes en 7 volumes reliés.

the most comprehensive collective edition works of Alexis Piron, given by Rigoley Juvigny. Portrait of the author leads the first book, engraved on copper by Augustin de Saint-Aubin from Caffieri. As so often, the eighth volume, including the playful works, is not attached here. Copy with large margins. Pages in red and black tracks.
Binders half blond calf iced mid nineteenth century. spine smooth ornate urn irons and rollers. parts of title and volume number in red shagreen. Light rubbing on some volumes in headdresses, borders. All very fresh. Very nice copy.
Piron together theater, stories, and plays in verse and prose. The author began his career by epigrams and witticisms (talent that is found in the Tales), then poured into comedy working for comic opera and theâtre Fair. His tragedies, although they try to renew a genre dying at the time were not his best attempts. Piron gave the piece remains as his masterpiece in 1738: The Metromanie, which Grimm said she would stay as long as there is a theater and taste in France.
