First edition

Marc Antoine PETIT Onan, ou le tombeau du Mont Cindre

Marc Antoine PETIT

Onan, ou le tombeau du Mont Cindre

de l'imprimerie de J. B. Kindelem., à Lyon 1809, in 8 (22x14cm), (4) x, 99pp. (1bc) (3)., broché.

first edition presented in its original pinout with blue and mute covers.
Doctor Petit, chief surgeon of the Lyon hospital, composed this poetry which is intended to be a metaphor for the dangers of onanism. The work begins with an eulogy from Tissot, the author of onanism. The poem, rewarded by the floral games of Toulouse, is followed by a commentary and a dissertation on the scourge of masturbation. From the examples provided by the greatest doctors, one risks no less than death, and at best, as well as the hero of the poem, melancholy, apathy, and weakness of the whole body. Onanism is presented as the main responsible for the ills from which youth suffers, its primary cause, whether its effects are phthisis, or cataracts, or nervous diseases.
Lack of paper on most of the surface of the back, first flat detached, folded corners, some freckles.
