Walter SCOTT The poetical works of Sir Walter Scott

Walter SCOTT

The poetical works of Sir Walter Scott

Adam and Charles Black, Edinburgh 1857, Très fort in-8 (18x25cm), 823pp., relié.

New edition, illustrated with a frontispiece, an engraved title and 18 boards, all on steel, and many engraved wood (header, cul-de-lamp, vignette) after Turner, Birket Foster & John Gilbert. Several facsimiles. Edition with notes, additions and remarks by JG Lockhart. Nice neat impression on 2 columns. Each work contains a false title, an appendix. Clear and well structured edition, perfectly illustrated with landscapes of Scotland and historiated scenes.
Publisher's cardboard in full gold beveled ultramarine percaline. Smooth back decorated with a large ornamental composition evoking medieval illuminated books. Large decorative plate blue and gold, very rich, with central cartridge, the whole evoking the illuminations of the Middle Ages. Golden slices. Back slightly passed. Broken headdresses with micro cuts. Rubbed and blunt corners. Internal hinge of the lower plate with rips, but the volume remains solid and homogeneous, without play. Copy on beautiful vellum paper tinted, totally freckles, perfectly fresh. Snakes still present. A rhodoid was added to protect the carton, we left it in place.
