Jules VERNE

Le village aérien. Les histoires de Jean-Marie Cabidoulin

Hetzel, Paris 1901, Grd. in 8 (18x28cm), 234 ; 218pp., relié.

First illustrated collective edition, 38 drawings by Georges Roux, 12 large color engravings. A map.
"Au globe doré" type editor cardboard; second board Engel type h. Back to the lighthouse.
Beautiful first plate, with gleaming golds. Small smudges in the sky. Lower wedge furrowed, 2 others slightly folded. Insolated back. Second flat good, but traces of white glue along the framing of greek. Body of the work a little disassociated from cardboard. 2 notebooks a little out. Scattered pale foxing.
An adventure novel set in Central Africa, in which Verne quotes Darwin's theory several times; the protagonists discovering a tribe living in trees, a kind of monkey men without tails. The stories of Jean-Marie Cabidoulin tell the story of a whaler's journey.
