First edition

Jules VERNE Le phare du bout du monde

Jules VERNE

Le phare du bout du monde

Hetzel, Paris 1906, Grd. in-8 (18x27,3cm), 204pp., relié.

Illustrated first edition. 33 Illustrations by George Roux including a frontispiece and 6 polychrome engravings. Jauzac specifies that an edition "Au steamer" could have preceded that "With acanthus leaves", but that this edition is "pure speculation".
Cartonnage editor said "Acanthus leaves" golden macaroon (generally qualifying the first editions). Nice first plate with a little dull macaroon. Insolated back with a slot of the percaline on 1cm at the lower bit in tail. A small lack of percaline, hole of 3 mn on the back. Second flat well with some shaded areas. Sharp and rubbed corners. Volume homogeneous but warped, the first flat exceeding the second on a few millimeters. Very fresh with some rare and pale foxinges scattered on the back of the inset and in some margins and on the back of the last sheet. Good copy overall.
