Hetzel, Paris 1875, Grd. in-8 (18x27,3cm), 223pp., relié.

Beautiful first plate with well marked and shiny golds (small black dots in a thin area). Clear back with clearly legible golds. The 2 corners of the bottom slightly dull. Collapsed caps. second board very good. Scattered pale freckles more present on the first leaves, rather discreet afterwards. Beautiful copy.
The Chancellor , originally published in 1874 is a novel of maritime adventure inspired by the raft of the jellyfish . Martin Paz is located in Peru. One of the only titles by Verne dealing with the discourse on races and hatred of miscegenation, the hero being an Indian in love with a Jewish woman.
