Strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hide - The merry men and others tales and fables

Robert Louis STEVENSON

Strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hide - The merry men and others tales and fables

Charles Scribner's sons, New York 1887-1886, 12,5x19cm, 2 volumes reliés en 1.

True first edition of the "Strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hide" published on January 5, 1886, preceding the London edition by 4 days. Without the 7 leaves of Scribner advertisements at rear.
First American edition for both titles.
A rare reunion of two Stevenson works, exploring the themes of alter egos and madness. The treasure-hunt theme of The Merry Men also draws similarities to Stevenson's masterpiece The Treasure Island.
Cream colored half Bradel binding, red shagreen title label, marbled paper boards, small stains on upper fore edge.
Manuscript ex-dono on first free endpaper, ink stamp on the second volume's half-title.
Fresh condition inside.
