[Gérard de NERVAL] Pierre de RONSARD

Choix des poésies de Ronsard, Dubellay, Baïf, Belleau, Dubartas, Chassignet, Desportes, Régnier ; précédé d’une introduction par M. Gérard.

Bureau de la Bibliothèque choisieMéquignon-Havard & Bricon, Paris 1830, 9x14cm, relié.

Rare edition published by Gérard de NERVAL, this choice of poems of the best writers of the sixteenth century and First edition OF IMPORTANT PREFACE NERVAL, occupying the first 60 pages. This book marks the entrance of the author in the battle for the renovation of French literature and in defense of romanticism. So begins the introduction: "It is now stirred in literature a very important question asks whether modern poetry may withdraw some fruit of the study of François writers, prior to the seventeenth century." Nerval use this introduction to give, besides a history of poetry from the Middle Ages, its own vision of poetry and define its place in relation to the poetic tradition. Of great value for the history of literature, the collection echoes the writings of nature including Sainte-Beuve and Victor Hugo. Good copy in contemporary binding, despite the use rubbing back and scattered foxing.
