Patrick MODIANO La place de l'étoile

Patrick MODIANO

La place de l'étoile

Gallimard, Paris 1968, 12x19cm, broché.

First edition of Patrick Modiano's first book. No deluxe copies printed, this one bearing the correct first edition imprint dated March 28, 1968.
One of the press copies.
Preface by Jean Cau.
A fine copy, with an original wrap-around band announcing his first literary prize the following year.
Very rare copy inscribed by Patrick Modiano: "Pour Marcel Arland avec ma vive admiration. Hommage de l'auteur. Modiano."
Marcel Arland was co-director with Jean Paulhan of the Gallimard publishing house since 1953 and a long-standing member of the company's Reading Committee. He was instrumental in the discovery of future Nobel Prize winner Modiano, then a young 23-year-old author.
Inscribed copies of Patrick Modiano's first novel are extremely rare.
