François Joseph de LA GRANGE-CHANCEL

Théâtre

Chez François L'Honoré et fils, à Amsterdam 1746, pet. in-12 (7,5x13,5cm), (54) 395pp. et (6) 415pp., 2 volumes reliés.

First Edition collective. It is illustrated with a frontispiece, repeated at both volumes, a vignette title Picart also repeated figures and 10 unsigned, very pretty, showing the actors on stage. Full posterior brown sheepskin (1800). Back nerve nets. part of title tan morocco. Caps threadbare. Contemporaries saw in La Grange-Chancel's successor Racine. It claimed to have the highest ability to write poetry. His support led him to Louis XIV, who asked Racine to read it, and it sponsored the first part of the author. Many of its rooms in its finest performance, and the author is, if not a great playwright, the taste of an era for a theater. Most of the subjects of his pieces are taken from novels Calprenede, he was particularly fond. The preface perhaps more aptly named Memories of La Grange-Chancel, the latter telling them his rise from childhood until the launch of his first play, Jugurtha. Bookplate arms engraved nineteenth: The Proux. --- Please note that the translation in english is done automatically, we apologize if the formulas are inaccurate. Contact us for any information!
