Collective first edition containing some unpublished works. A portrait etching by Commanvilles. Edition ne varietur based on the manuscripts of Mme Commanville, Flaubert's niece to whom he had bequeathed his manuscripts. Printing on vellum upper. Print on beautiful vellum paper.
Beautiful copy, with decorative backs.
Binders half red shagreen contemporary in corners. Back with nerves nicely decorated with mirrored irons and finials. Author and golden titles. Copy uncut, with wide margins.
In addition to works that had already been published and a volume for the theater, this edition contains the study on Flaubert Maupassant placed before Bouvard and Pecuchet and some unpublished after Mixtures: For the fields and by the strikes, Dance of the Dead, November, Rabelais (a youth study), Smarh, On board the Cange (fragments of a trip to the Orient). Gustave Flaubert died in 1880.
