Vicomte d' ARLINCOURT Charlemagne ou la Caroleide, poëme épique en vingt quatre chants

Vicomte d' ARLINCOURT

Charlemagne ou la Caroleide, poëme épique en vingt quatre chants

Lenormand., Paris 1818, in 8 (13,5x22cm), de 279pp. , 274pp., 2 volume reliés en 1.

First Edition illustrated by Horace Vernet two frontispieces and 5 originals ink drawings and unsigned wash. A folding map enhanced color endnotes places where the poem takes place. Full contemporary calf. Smooth back decorated with two boxes to the Grotesque, multiple threads and wheels. Part of title and volume number in green morocco. Croisillonnés cold boards, wide wheel with foliage framing, and Greek vases. Friction to the joints and flat edges. Gilt edges. Beautiful copy, despite some flaws. Charles-Victor Prévost Arlincourt (1788-1856) was, before sinking into oblivion, one of the figures of Romanticism, and its popularity rivaled Hugo. But cheered by a female audience, it was harpooned by critics who thought his incredible productions. He published his poem on Charlemagne to great fanfare. --- Please note that the translation in english is done automatically, we apologize if the formulas are inaccurate.
