Autograph letter dated and signed by Romain Rolland, 18 lines in black ink, written in French and English from Villeneuve in the canton of Vaud.
Usual folds, a small hole to the upper left corner made by a pin, not affecting the text.
Romain Rolland, aligned with Moscow's position, criticizes the expansionist and imperialist policies of the West and the Japanese empire: “I take the liberty of communicating to you the enclosed appeal which I sent today to several French newspapers, and I enclose a copy of the telegram from Moscow, which triggered it.”
He comes to the defense of the Kuomintang and its leader Sun Yat-sen, endangered by the Japanese army backed by the Europeans, including the French: "A few days before, I had received from Shanghai in flames the following cablegram from Madame Sun Yat-sen [in English]: ‘Urgently appeal united action with antiimperialist League previent subjection division China by japanese imperialists with active assistance other imperialists including French...'.
